The City of San Diego has been granted $9.5 million in Federal funds to help aquire foreclosed homes in the City.
This initiative will assist approx 130 families (story in SignonSanDiego here) – think this is a good idea?
Not according to Bob Kavane, incoming 2009 Treasurer of SDAR (San Diego Assoc of Realtors).
I listened to his impassioned speech last Friday in protest to the move and I agreed with his sentiments and proposal. Why would the City want to own foreclosed homes or assist others to purchase foreclosures when there are those that are still suffering hardship and future foreclosures?? This is a total tragedy affecting the whole community with neighborhoods being ravaged and torn apart.
If used properly that $9.5 million could help over 9000 families - can you imagine how many children that would affect?
These families could be helped to actually stay in their homes, but the City officials say that’s against the rules and it can’t be done.
Well Bob and I say CHANGE THE RULES!
What do you think?
